heart tree card...

i designed a card for a friend's engagement party. it's not an original idea. i actually got the idea from their invitation and matched the concept of a tree with heart leaves...

there's a tiny yellow diamond pattern on the card. i designed an envelope with the diamond pattern on the inside lining to match. this one was quick and fun to make.

omg, how did i not know about designercon before?
i think i'm hyperventilation just looking at the vendor list...
it's $5 admission...someone be available and come with me! hell, i'll buy your ticket in.

kid dragon gold edition...

remember dragon boy by sam flores? it's gold, it's gold, it's gold! i dunno why that makes me so happy. vinyl pulse says "The figure will be released in conjunction with the December 4th (7-10 PM) opening of their Bastards and Hunk show featuring eight Colombian Graffiti artists and international guest Sam Flores" in Medellin, Colombia.

$125.00 plus shipping. hm, tempting.
no, my favorite color way is still the original...
there is a Blue edition too, that will be released at DesignerCon this Saturday, November 21st in Pasadena at The Loyal Subjects booth. all images from vinyl pulse.

doktor a's odorous fish man...

in May this year, i bought yoskay yamamoto's koibito...

Doktor A remixes toys and look what he did to koibito! doktor a has renamed the character the odorous fish man and even created a story for him too...
"Obadiah Marsh was a tailor by trade who found he had an affinity with the sea. His small personal fortune was spent on many small alterations which over time helped him move with greater ease though the oceans of the world. His new styling and tedious obsession however made him unpopular at dinner parties and he soon found himself without friends. He found new friends at the Freak Show and decided to join their ranks. "
check out the other toys/characters in the Freak Mechanique show at Lift gallery Nov. 14-Dec. 09 on Toys R Evil.

postal sketches {round 3}...

i'm really excited about the progress of my Postal Sketches project, so i just wanted to share an update. we just posted spread sixteen by Rachel Peterson...
her page reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and that makes me happy.
previously, Chris Kawagiwa did a spread using coffee and ink. coffee!
we've also been documenting the evolution of the sketchbook's physical appearance...

don't miss any of the up coming spreads!

three apples {round 4 & 5}...

alright, so going to the Hello Kitty art show five times might have been a little bit overkill, but i must reiterate that every time i went, there was something new to see. for round four, i took Rachel Peterson and we stood in line for Meet the Artists day. we met Plasticgod, who brought a whole new series of Hello Kitty Icons (above). there were also new panels by Buff Monster and Chase(below)...later in the day, we watched Peekaboo Monster and Angry Woebots do some live painting. its always inspiring to see other artists' process. this is Angry Woebots post on the event : Hello Kitty SHOW - Good Times
i took a couple more friends who had not gone yet for round 5, and at the very end of the night i found the Hello Kitty lucky cat on the Royal/T bar counter. i'm infatuated. i must find this!

at the pearl thief...

if there was ever an art show that was literally mesmerizing, and induced bug-eyed staring, craola created it in this solo show at gallery 1988. the precision is intimidating...these are details of the largest piece he's done to date. below is my favorite portion of the painting.
...and this is the masterpiece. it's gloriously large and detailed, you really have to see it in person to fully appreciate the skill and fine lines.afterward, eileen and i ate at ammo. i had some delicious House Made Tagliatelle with yellow heirloom tomatoes. eileen had been salivating over getting her red heirloom tomato salad with Mt. Vikos feta. my pictures of our food were not clear, but this restaurant was definitely a find.
