I stopped by this exhibit after brunch and it was ridiculously adorable.

 The show was at Gallery 1988: East.

 The paintings were by Cuddly Rigor Mortis

 It's on display until June 6th, 2015.

Joss Whedon x Gallery 1988

I stood in line opening night for the Joss Whedon tribute show at Gallery 1988. It was so fun looking for obscure references to Whedon's shows/movies. I wish there were more Dollhouse pieces though.

My favorite piece from the show is of River from Firefly

Bunnywith...

I must back track because I've been terrible about updating my blog. Alex Pardee's Bunnywith show was October 19, 2013 at Gallery 1988: East.

Charlie and I stood in a tolerable line, and were treated to hundreds of affordable pieces. Pardee was there in his Bunnywith head piece passing out 5x7" prints by the door, and signing prints, books, and toys. He seemed like such a happy, sweet guy despite the demented scenarios that spew from his brain into his art. It's a fabulous amalgam.

 There were SO many bunnywiths. Bunnywith Helium was my favorite.

Gallery 1988: East opened Dan Goodsell's Drawing Mr. Toast show April 5th. At this show, we could buy the art off the wall and take it home immediately, so I bought one.

at Inle...

March 11th was marked in my calendar the second I read in Craola's blog that he was curating a show at Gallery 1988: Melrose months ago. The show was called 'Inle,' the rabbit name for 'moon' based on "Watership Down" by Richard Adams, and about 100 artists were invited to exhibit. I'm so infatuated with Craola's piece, I ordered the canvas print even though I have NO wall space to hang it. There were so many favorites in addition to Craola's, Audrey Kawasaki's, Brian Despain's...

3 days, 3 openings...

I didn't make it to every art show I thought about going to, but I think I did pretty good.

Friday night, after an amazing meal at Upper West for dineLA with some girl friends, we (Rachel) convinced the door man at Gallery 1988: Melrose to let us in even though it was after 10pm. We promised to not be the last ones at Scott C.'s exhibit, and we weren't, heh. Such a fun show, and Scott C. drew E.T. in my sketchbook. I also got Jensen, the gallery owner, to sign my book; sorry for being late to the opening.
Saturday night, I drove out to Fullerton to have dinner with my sister and Cousinish at Tranquil Tea Lounge. Then Cousinish and I set out for the CSUF Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana. Suggestivism was so crowded, but so good. I feel in love with the tiger painting by Michael Page. My favorite was still an Audrey Kawasaki painting, 'Charlotte'.
Sunday night was the first time I went back to CSULB since I graduated. The tribute show for Lisa was so colorful and so filled with love; it was so Lisa...
Bonus: Saturday morning, I had brunch with my girls at Royal/T where the pop up shop for Mr. Toast was opened since Wednesday, and the Warholian show was on display. It was a full weekend.

one february weekend...

To make up for my lack of gallery hopping at the end of 2010, I am attempting to fill my weekends with art show openings now. So on my To Do list this weekend is:
Friday night, The Great Showdowns by Scott C at Gallery 1988: Melrose. Always loved his wit and watercolors.Saturday afternoon, The Year of the Rabbit show at GR2 in Culver City. Its a group show including Yoskay Yamamoto and Mari Inukai in honor of the Lunar New Year.
Saturday night, Suggestivism curated by Nathan Spoor at the CSUF Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana. A massive group show, including Audrey Kawasaki, Craola, and Tara McPherson.
"Conceptually speaking, the term “suggestivism” refers to the ability of an individual to pursue their purpose with an amplified understanding and sensitivity. The artists involved represent precisely this - a wave of purpose, working within the more fluid aspects of narrative or figurative arenas. Through the mere power of suggestion, the magic is transferred from one to another, engaging the world at large from the most vivid and evocative of visual realms."
Also Saturday night, Poster Peepshow: The Art of the Pinup at Nucleus in Alhambra. When are pinups not fun?
And Sunday will be the tribute show for Lisa Nguyen at CSULB.
We shall see how many I will actually make it to...

Visiting Chris and Kevin...

Saturday, I made it out to Venice to Gallery 1988's newest location for the Multiplayer show. There was an impressive crowd and great prints.
I believe the most popular pieces were Daniel Danger's Silent Hill and Kevin Tong's My Tetris Heart Longs for Your Push. So happy that I got a hold of Kevin's print before they sold out.
Last night, I dragged a friend to see Chris Kawagiwa at the Huntington Beach One Stop Art Walk at the Shorebreak Hotel. Chris loved Tron, can you tell?
Nice little middle of the week event.

Gallery 1988: Venice...

The inaugural show at Gallery 1988: Venice is opening this Saturday! Their San Francisco spot has closed and moved closer to me, haha. 'Multiplayer' combines art posters and video games.
I think I have to go just to buy Kevin Tong's 'My Tetris Heart Longs for Your Push' poster.

if there was ever an art show that was literally mesmerizing, and induced bug-eyed staring, craola created it in this solo show at gallery 1988. the precision is intimidating...these are details of the largest piece he's done to date. below is my favorite portion of the painting.
...and this is the masterpiece. it's gloriously large and detailed, you really have to see it in person to fully appreciate the skill and fine lines.afterward, eileen and i ate at ammo. i had some delicious House Made Tagliatelle with yellow heirloom tomatoes. eileen had been salivating over getting her red heirloom tomato salad with Mt. Vikos feta. my pictures of our food were not clear, but this restaurant was definitely a find.
