Branded arts walls...

These walls are covered up and gone now, but a few weeks ago a new friend took me to the buildings to explore.
I was ecstatic to see Yoskay Yamamoto's mural...
 and Ekundayo's...
 and Hush's
 and Shark Toof's
and two Dabs and Myla's!

At Picking Up Where We Left Off...

I had a packed schedule last weekend, but I HAD to stop by opening night of Yoskay Yamamoto's solo show at LeBasse Projects "Picking Up Where We Left Off". So between helping out a friend and going out in Santa Monica, I stopped in Culver City. Midnight Blossom was my favorite piece at this show.

at Fashionable Aftertaste Without End...

First of all, I had to stop by Yoskay Yamamoto's closing reception for Familiar Strangers. The print release for the 'Four Seasons' series was Saturday night.
Natalia Fabia's show was fabulous, in every sense of the word. The paintings, the costumes, even the cake was gluttony for the eyes.
I am enamored with the details in "Balloon Party of Birthday."
"Gate of Girl of Yoga" was my favorite piece. All the paintings were oil on panel.
Images of the paintings are from Corey Helford Gallery.

The Art Angels: Yoskay Yamamoto...

This is number two in my Art Angels series. I decided to do this right after Yoskay Yamamoto's show, so I thought I should draw him. I must admit, I kind of ran out of steam when I got to his hat, and his jaw line is too wide.

familiar strangers...

Yoskay Yamamoto put on a beautiful solo show at LeBasse Projects. I picked up my friend and aritst, Rachel, and we drove out to Culver City at 8pm. There were installations in metal and wood...
a signature Koibito painting, which I instantly fell in love with...
amazing textures and vibrant colors...
with a backdrop of 100 yoskayfied astro boy heads bolted to the wall called "Do You Remember Me?"
humble and awesome artist that he is, Yoskay did a sketch for me too!
arrested motion coverage.
daily du jour coverage.

at Deva Loka & Tell Me a Story...

i had a busy weekend filled with a baby shower and birthdays, but i managed to squeeze in the opening for Yoshitaka Amano's Deva Loka show and Yoskay Yamamoto's Tell Me A Story installation at LeBasse Projects...
Amano's pieces are huge, lacquered, and glittery!
I was just in awe standing in Yamamoto's intallation. His colorful Yoskayfied rain makes me happy.

doktor a's odorous fish man...

in May this year, i bought yoskay yamamoto's koibito...

Doktor A remixes toys and look what he did to koibito! doktor a has renamed the character the odorous fish man and even created a story for him too...
"Obadiah Marsh was a tailor by trade who found he had an affinity with the sea. His small personal fortune was spent on many small alterations which over time helped him move with greater ease though the oceans of the world. His new styling and tedious obsession however made him unpopular at dinner parties and he soon found himself without friends. He found new friends at the Freak Show and decided to join their ranks. "
check out the other toys/characters in the Freak Mechanique show at Lift gallery Nov. 14-Dec. 09 on Toys R Evil.
