Offering...

On a whim, with no regard for my budget, I ordered Audrey Kawasaki's Offering print from Thinkspace the minute I saw this print was available. Currently, I still need to get this dreamy piece framed.

one of those nights...

 April 13th, no one was available to play with me, but that doesn't mean I won't have an adventure on my own, especially on one of those nights in Culver city where all my favorite galleries are having an opening at the same time. I started at LeBasse Projects for Trusto Corp's "The Future is Blight" show featuring an installation that blanketed LA county with care packages for poverty.

 Trusto Corp collaborated with Shepard Fairey, London Police, and David Flores for Trusto Cereal flavors.

 Next door at Thinkspace was Meggs' "Heavenly Creatures," filled with bold colors in motion.

 Of course, I loved the phoenix.

 Blum and Poe, around the block was exhibiting in their expansive space "Arhat" by Takashi Murakami. I originally thought I missed opening night since I saw posts from the VIP opening, but I was very happy to discover I was wrong.

 I was obsessed with this metal sculpture. For an idea of how big it was, the smallest skull was a little bigger than my own head.

 At Corey Helford Gallery, Kazuki Takamatsu's "Japanese Ideology of Puberty" show was mind blowing.

The details and textures and size of everything very much made my jaw drop.

 After all that, I treated myself to some Cool Haus ice cream.

The Future Is Not What It Used To Be, etc...

Saturday night, I stopped by Corey Helford, LeBasse Projects and Thinkspace. I missed Kukula's opening night at Corey Helford, but they had extended hours for the night, which were much appreciated.

 Mike Stilkey curated the show at LeBasse Projects. I loved this altered book by Brian Dettmer "Complete Book of Marvels." Below is Stilkey's "Nothing Endures but Change" painting.

Female group show "In the Wake of Dreams" at Thinkspace was almost closed, but the owner said "I'll let you in real quick, but then I'm kicking you out." Thank you for letting us in!

 Audrey Kawasaki's new pieces are intricate and beautiful as always.

 Amy Sol's sleepy animals are adorable.

Mari Inukai's paintings amazing and intense.

Next Door...

Tonight LeBasse Projects will show a Mike Stilkey curated group show, The Future Is Not What It Used To Be.

 And next door at ThinkSpace, it will be girls galore: Stella Im Hultberg, Mari Inukai, Audrey Kawasaki, and Amy Sol.

At Siren and Tokyo Deluxe...

Friday night was possibly my last gallery night with Rachel Peterson. We hit up Thinkspace for Dabs Myla's Tokyo Deluxe and Sarah Jonca's Siren shows. The installation by Dabs Myla, Australian artists based in LA, in the Project Room was fabulous. There were hanging clouds, floating sushi, and ridiculously intricate detail on the buildings in the paintings. My favorite cardboard cut out piece was the octopus guy.

Canadian artist, Sarah Joncas, had a nicely themed show in the Main Gallery. I fell in love with the mural she and her friend painted on the gallery walls.
Rachel introduced me to artist extraordinaire John Hicks, and all ended the night with dessert at Ugo. By next month, Rachel will be infiltrating Portland, Oregon, John will be on an adventure in New York, and I will be traveling in China. Plans to reconvene are in the works. Life is crazy.

Love Conquers All...

Thinkspace is putting on an art show with proceeds going toward Equality California. It's a group show that opens tonight. The preview pieces look amazing...

new thinkspace...

Friday night, I made it out to the inaugural art show at Thinkspace's new Culver City location. I was ecstatic to find out it's two doors down from LeBasse Projects. First of all, I met my friend Kathria and we had a delightfully satisfying Italian dinner as Novecento Pasta & Grill. I only took a picture of the bread appetizer because we were too hungry to pause and photograph our entrees.
At Thinkspace, there were 3 exhibition openings. In the main gallery were paintings and sketches by Anthony Pontius. They were cute and disturbing at the same time.In their Project Room, was the group show Hunt & Gather for the launch of a book by the same name by Tina Ziegler. The book signing with almost all the featured artists was the next night, but I didn't make it out for that. I really love the above piece by Aaron Kraten.
Finally in the Thinkspace office, a group show called Vision was on display. Kathria really liked the black and white collage piece on the right.
It was a nice night out, and I love the new gallery space.

trouble, clearly and run rabbit run...

thinkspace had an opening last friday night for cherri wood's trouble, clearly solo show and brandi milne's run rabbit run solo show. we were only there briefly, but we did see brandi and craola, apparently we left before audrey kawasaki came by too. both artist have very distinct styles and with this show, both took a little step in different direction than their previous works.
